Pushing New Heights with an Apex Legends Roster

The Charlotte Phoenix is proud to announce that we will be entering into the Apex Legends professional scene! Our journey through Apex Legends esports will be led by the roster formally known as South State. This is the first new game that we have entered into since Valorant in mid 2020 and we are thrilled about the future with this roster. The esports scene surrounding this title has been blowing up over the recent months and this roster is poised and in a prime position to make waves.

Team Accomplishments and Accolades

This roster is full of seasoned Apex Legends players that have been competing since the inception of the game. These three individual players have just recently found each other and formed their trio in February of 2021. Since the roster began competing together they have been on an upward trajectory. In the fourteen tournaments/events that this new trio has entered in, they have finished in third or better in eleven. The Apex Legends esports scene is set to explode and this roster is primed to rise to the occasion and take home some victories.

Currently, this set of players is in seventh place in the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) based on points. This along with the third place finish within the Winner’s Circuit Playoffs has qualified the roster for a spot within the Winter Split Playoffs. The ongoing success of the team has them in perfect position to take top six at this next event on March 27th and 28th, which would grant them a North American bid into the Global Nationals.

The Roster

Hunter ‘Pride’ Perez

Main Legend: Wraith

Starting off the roster is Pride. Pride has been playing in Apex Legends since the game dropped in 2019. Shortly after the release, Pride began pursuing the competitive scene by competing in many events and tournaments. With competing in the Preseason Invitational and coming in 2nd place at the ALGS Online #2 he will bring in strong competitive experience to the roster. Being calm, collected, and straight to the point, Pride is the perfect fit for an in-game leader (IGL) position. 

“We are out here to secure a championship,” Pride said regarding the roster. “I look forward to competing under the Charlotte Phoenix name and taking care of business.”

Deston ‘Bronzey’ Nguyen

Main Legend: Caustic

Helping out Pride on the IGL role is Bronzey the resident Caustic player. Bronzey has been playing Apex Legends from the beginning and competing since 2019. He has finished on the podium in the top 3 over nineteen separate events and brings in LAN experience to the roster. Apex Legends is the first esport that Bronzey has competed in and he has left his mark on the scene already. Bringing in the experience and knowledge of the game from a top level puts him in the perfect position to help call shots on the battlefield. 

“I’m very passionate about art and the graphic designs at CLT are amazing,” Bronzey said about Charlotte Phoenix. “I am extremely excited to represent this logo and brand in Apex Legends and bring home the gold.”

Josh ‘Mercyonlyy’ Hanko

Main Legend: Gibraltar

Mercyonlyy is another roster member that has been playing Apex Legends since the beginning. His competitive journey began in 2020 and he has had a steady stream of tournament experience ever since he started. His most notable events were a ninth place finish in the GLL Masters Summer and a twelfth place in the ALGS Autumn Circuit Playoffs. With superb gun skill on the fragging role, Mercyonlyy is a perfect fit to take gunfights and put the squad in winning positions.

“With this being the first professional organization that I have competed under I’m very excited to represent a strong org and show what myself and the squad is capable of!” Mercyonlyy says about his optimistic future with Charlotte Phoenix in Apex Legends professional play.
