Will “Sawcer” Hazell plays for the Charlotte Phoenix Call of Duty Challengers team. Sawcer is from Vancouver and has an athletic background in hockey. He enjoys streaming and usually offers his channel as the place to watch our #CodSquad compete in live tournaments.

We sat down with Sawcer to get to know more about his life Behind the Screen including how he chose his username and his love for sports-based video games. Keep reading to learn who Sawcer’s favorite rapper is, which NHL team he roots for, and his thoughts on CoD Warzone.

What are some things you like about being home right now?

I’ve really enjoyed having home cooked meals.

In your opinion, what is the best CoD game of all time and why?

Black Ops 2 was my favorite because of its playability. It had a lot of fun modes, like zombies and the campaign.

What is it about CoD that excites you or makes it unique from/more fun than other games?

Being able to gun people down is the best feeling in a game and in CoD you get that all the time.

How do you feel about CoD Warzone?

Not convinced on it yet…there are a lot of cheaters.

How did you choose your username/gamertag?

My childhood hockey nickname was Sauce, so I added a W to my name and that was about it.

How did you decide to go pro in CoD?

It was the first game I fell in love with, and here we are now.

Who do you look up to the most and why?

My mom. She taught me how far a strong work ethic can take you.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that I have never taken a day off since I started competing.

Do you watch traditional sports? If so, what is your favorite team?

Yes, I’m a big fan of the NHL Calgary Flames.

What is the most interesting thing you have done in the past year?

I got to travel for gaming; it was really cool.

How well do you know your teammates? 

I’d say I probably know them too well at this point.

Do you have any inside jokes with your team?

All I’ll say is this: Caccits.

What do you like to do in your free time besides play video games (activities/hobbies)?

I enjoy going to hockey games, which I unfortunately can’t do now. I also like to watch other Call of Duty streams.

What video game world would you like to live in?

I’d choose Wii Sports.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?

Step Brothers is an amazing movie.

Who is your favorite singer or band? What music do you listen to while streaming?

Drake is my go-to. In general, I listen to a lot of hip-hop.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Charlotte. Wanna guess why? 😛

Aside from CoD, what are your top 3 favorite video games to play and why?

EA’s NHL, Madden, and NBA 2K. Because of my athletic background, playing sports-based games helps me decompress after a hard day of practice.

What is your favorite meal or snack?

Steak frites. If you’ve never had them, I highly suggest you try them.

What is something you cannot live without?

My gaming setup.

What’s something many people fear that doesn’t scare you at all?

Spiders. They’re not as bad as people think.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Never give up and never surrender.

If you could give advice to players looking to improve at CoD or video games in general, what would your advice be?

Put in more time than anyone else and devote all your energy to that one game.
