Marcos “Spekcy” Ruiz is a player for the Charlotte Phoenix Call of Duty team. Spekcy currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona, but is from Mexicali, Baja California.

Specky tells us about his favorite games besides Call of Duty, when he started playing video games, and how he chose his username in this Behind the Screen article. Learn more about Specky including how adulting is going, his thoughts on Warzone, and what kinds of dogs he has.

Have you played any new games during quarantine?

I’ve really been enjoying Borderlands 3 and Resident Evil 2.

What are some things you like about being home right now?

I can put as much time as I want into being a better player. Lots of time to practice and improve!

In your opinion, what is the best CoD game of all time and why?

Black Ops 2. It was the game that introduced me to the community scene and has one of my favorite CoD maps, Raid.

How do you feel about CoD Warzone?

It’s the perfect thing to do after some tiresome scrims. It’s good to have somewhat of a break here and there.  

How did you choose your username/gamertag?

My name used to be Spectre_150. It came from a character in Resident Evil Operation Recon and over time it evolved into Spekcy.

When and how did you start playing video games?

I started playing video games on the Nintendo 64. Anytime my family would get together we would play Mario Party.

How did you decide to go pro in CoD?

I decided to go pro because I enjoy the game but also because I have the talent needed to succeed.

Who do you look up to the most and why?

I look up to my mom the most. She is the reason why I have everything I do.

Do you have any pets? If so, what kind? And what is their name?

Yes, I have 3 dogs. Two are German Shepherds and the other is a Chihuahua. Their names are Joe, Princess, and Tijeras.

Do you watch traditional sports? If so, what is your favorite team?

I only watch soccer. My favorite team has to be Chivas, who play in Liga, MX.  

What is the most interesting thing you have done in the past year?

I opened a bank account. There’s nothing like adulting.  

Do you have any inside jokes with your team? If so, can you describe one?

Cakitssssss!!!! Not going to explain what it means; they’re inside jokes for a reason.

What do you like to do in your free time besides play video games?

When I’m not gaming, I like making music.

What is your favorite movie or TV show?

My favorite anime is Mob Psycho 100.

Who is your favorite singer or band? What music do you listen to while streaming?

My favorite singer is Lil Peep. Generally, I like to listen to music that’s more underground.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Somewhere where it rains a lot, I love the rain.

If you could instantly become an expert at something, what would it be?

Being an entrepreneur. Who wouldn’t want to be rich?

Aside from CoD, what are your top 3 favorite video games to play and why?

The Resident Evil Series, Borderlands, and Prince of Persia are my top 3.

What is your favorite meal or snack?

I consider coconut water my favorite snack, even if it’s a drink. It’s amazing.

What’s something many people fear that doesn’t scare you at all?

Bugs. They’re not as bad or scary as people think.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Worry about what you are doing, not what everyone else is.

If you could give advice to players looking to improve at CoD or video games in general, what would your advice be?

Watch some YouTube videos if you want some tips on how to become better. I make a few on my channel. Otherwise, just keep grinding.
